01

✔️ Obtain a taxpayer identification number: If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to obtain a taxpayer identification number (TIN) from the local tax authorities. This can usually be done at the local tax office.

02

✔️ Determine your tax residency status: In China, tax residents are generally individuals who have resided in the country for 183 days or more in a calendar year or have established a permanent residence. Non-residents are subject to different tax rules. Determine your tax residency status as it will affect your tax obligations.

03

✔️ Understand the tax categories: China has different tax categories for various types of income, including employment income, business income, rental income, investment income, etc. Understand which category your income falls into and the corresponding tax rates and regulations.

04
✔️ Gather necessary documents: Collect all the required documents, including your income statements, employment contracts, rental agreements, investment statements, and any other relevant financial documents.
05
✔️ Calculate taxable income: Calculate your taxable income by deducting allowable expenses and deductions from your total income. China’s tax laws provide specific deductions and exemptions for certain expenses, such as social security contributions, housing fund contributions, education expenses, medical expenses, etc. You can consult Oden to ensure accurate calculations.
06
✔️ Complete the tax declaration form: Fill out the appropriate tax declaration form based on your income category. The forms can typically be obtained from the local tax office or downloaded from the tax authority’s website. Provide accurate and complete information on the form.
07
✔️ Submit the tax declaration: Once the tax declaration form is completed, submit it to the local tax authorities within the designated timeframe. This is usually done at the local tax office. Remember to keep copies of all the submitted documents for your records.
08
✔️ Pay the tax owed: After your tax declaration is processed, you will receive a tax assessment notice indicating the amount of tax owed. Pay the tax within the specified timeframe. China offers various payment methods, such as bank transfer, online payment platforms, or cash at designated banks.
09
✔️ Retain records and receipts: Keep copies of all relevant documents, receipts, and records related to your income and tax payments. These will be important for future reference or potential tax audits.

It’s worth noting that tax regulations in China may change, and specific procedures can vary depending on your location and individual circumstances.
